We are having some lovely weather here in Seaham and evening time is a peaceful time to take a walk. As usual, when I tell myself "5 more minutes then I will go home" I spot some unusual pieces! What jumped out at me was a pink tinged pebble and a blue multicoloured piece of sea glass ... then a heart shaped amber piece ... and finally a large white round piece ... Now it really was time to go home before the tide began to lap around my ankles. The sound of the waves is always impressive. On my way back along the beach I see that someone has built a stone cairn and I couldn't resist taking a photo of it! So that is the end of my evening stroll along Seaham beach. I hope you enjoyed it and I will leave you with the lone fisherman ... be back again soon.

May Day - our first public holiday this month and it feels like winter! It may be grey and overcast with light rain but that doesn't keep the beachcombers at home. This is the view from Vane Tempest car park today. You can see it is low tide - a great time to be out looking for sea glass. So, wrapped up well, off I go. Within half an hour the beach is as busy as a summer day. It is springtime in our hearts, even though the weather doesn't agree. And, of course, dogs want to run along the beach every day, no matter what the weather decides. I enjoyed an invigorating walk and the sea offered me spring colours today, lots of yellow and green, as she flowed back. A reminder that is is Spring. Can you spot the rare yellow multi?
Early on Good Friday morning (well about 10.30 am - early for me and the teenager) we joined the beachcombers on Seaham beach. The tide was way out, the sun was shining and this was looking like it was going to be a special day of inter-generational bonding.
We walked and talked all the way along the beach to the unusual hole in the cliff (more about that in a later post). We wrote our names in the damp sand and watched the nesting sea birds. We talked some more. I did some stretching out into the wide open space and breathed deeply. The teenager petted the passing dogs. We walked back along the beach, picking up sea glass as we went. There were many exclamations of "look what I've found" and "ooh look at this one" - and a few little happy dances along the way! A visit to the ice-cream shop rounded off this lovely morning and when we got home and shared our findings we found that we had made a rainbow ... simply perfect. (look at the dark blue piece and you will see a famous Seaham Sea Glass multi) |
